Use open questions when coaching or questioning, because open questions demand a fuller response than yes/no answers. Here’s a really easy way to remember those open questions quickly:

“I keep six honest serving men

(they taught me all I know)

Their names were What and Why and When

And How and Where and Who” Rudyard Kipling

Open questions are those you can use to focus on what might occur in the future. Invite your team members to speculate about their own, and others’ thoughts feelings and behaviours. They are also useful to help articulate their fears and for you to explore them.

That’s the tip!
