Over our last few posts, we have talked about the importance of systems to build your business, so the team does the work, not you.

Today, we want to share one of the most critical levers: your mindset.

Over the years, we’ve trained thousands of recruitment business owners, and one question that comes up for us every single time is this: why, when everybody has access to the same information and content, while most people do well, only about 5% of the people in the room will smash it.

The 5% take that information and double or triple their results in 6 months or less….. Why is that?

Well, what makes the difference is their mindset.

Because If it were knowledge and information, then everybody in the room that got the same knowledge should get the same results, but that doesn’t happen.

It is all about your mindset and what makes the difference between successful and unsuccessful Recruitment Business Owners; it’s your thinking and how you use your mind and brain.

Being The Change Mindset

And we’ve discovered that there is one key mindset that makes the difference between uber-successful business owners who have scaled to seven or eight figures more quickly than anybody else and those who are stuck at three or four people or maybe cannot get above the ten team members.

We call this mindset “Being The Change”.

Most people think that scaling means doing a lot of extra work, investing in a new bit of technology, or hiring a new team.

That the answers are outside of us, they are external factors.

But the secret is that the answer is already within you, and to get to the next level, it’s not about working harder or taking more action.

I’m sure all of you reading this post today will have an idea of what you want your business to achieve. You have a vision for your recruitment business.

Now ask yourself if you’re capable of achieving your vision as the person you are right now?

What you’ll find is, of course, you’re not yet, because who you are right now can only achieve what you have reached right now.

And if you have all that you want to achieve right now, you wouldn’t have your vision and goals because the nature of your vision is something you don’t have: so there’s a gap.

To achieve something you have never achieved before, you need to do things differently, behave and think differently.

You have to become a different person.

If you want more, you have to personally become more; you have to design and then grow into a new character capable of achieving these things easily.

And instead of trying to achieve your goals by working hard, you need to become that character.

Step into that inspirational leader of a highly successful team.

10X YOUR TEAM’S OUTPUT

To be it now, you have to ‘act as if’.

I know this may sound strange – as we are programmed to get what we want, we have to work harder.

Yet here is the thing.

We see that most people want a new vision but stay as they are; they keep the characteristics, habits, and behaviours they have always had and try to go after the new goal but fail.

How do you get something? You get something from taking action.

How do you take action? By making decisions.

So if you don’t change who you are, you won’t change your decision, and then you won’t change your actions. Then all your efforts won’t get the thing you want.

This is why the most important step is that you need to create a new you – then focus on BECOMING that person who achieves those things.

It’s not WHAT you do…. It’s HOW you’re being…

Here are some questions to ask yourself that will help you with this transition.

  • Who do I need to become to achieve my dreams and goals effortlessly?
  • What skills and strengths does this new character need to execute my vision?
  • What good habits does this person have?
  • What bad habits/beliefs is this person free from?

Then start running your business as if you are already running a multimillion business  – there are things we could settle for as we’re running a smaller company, things we could let slide.

Treat Your Team Like Your Clients

But we don’t let them slide because we want to run this business as if it’s already the business that we want it to be.

For example, how do I need to act/be when managing my team.

Because the truth is if you are serious about scaling, then your team need to become your clients.

You need to treat your team as your clients from here on in.

I remember learning this from a mentor years ago – and this one comment changed everything for me because I had never thought about my team in this manner before; up until that point, my clients and candidates ALWAYS came first.

If I had a one to one with my team, or I was training them, or I was listening to one of their sales calls, I would drop that at a second’s notice if a client phoned in and needed help.

My team always got put on the back burner.

As soon as I focused on them, as my client, my entire approach changed.

I NEVER missed a meeting, prepared for our 1-2-1, listened to them properly, exactly as I would do my clients.

I realised that if you want to be a business builder, your team will become your future; it’s not about you anymore.

Fact: You need to CONDUCT the whole thing – not BE the entire thing.

How Fit Your Recruitment Business Is For Growth…

Your team are where your billings are going to come from. They are your system for freedom; you have to focus on your team as if they are your clients.

What was really interesting, as soon as I stepped up and held myself accountable – my team either stepped up or stepped out.

My business became a mirror of my behaviour.

…….. and that’s when the business started to transform.

Don’t get me wrong; it was not all plain sailing from there. There were still challenges, but where I used to approach these challenges as a salesperson, and it was just another frustration stopping me from billing; as a business leader/systems builder, I was able to embrace the challenges and move forward.

This mindset shift reminds me of one of our clients, Dawn Turbitt, who was about to go bust when she first started with us and mentally, naturally, was not in a great place.

Dawn stepped up, became the change, transformed her mindset. Three years later, and her business is just about to break through the £2m level AND even better, she’s only working 3 to 4 days a week.

The bottom line here is if you are serious about wanting more, you have to personally BECOME more…. you have to design and then grow into a new character.
