I first came across the power of intention when I discovered Wayne Dyer’s book of the same name.

Setting intentions for what you want to create has a magical power; if you first get really clear on what you want.

Let me explain.

The way our brains work is fascinating. In the brain stem is a network of neurons called the reticular activating system, which lead back to the hypothalamus.

Enough science here! The critical point is that it acts as the gatekeeper of information between most sensory systems and the conscious mind.

The Reticular Activating System, lets call it RAS for short, is the attention centre in the brain.

It is the key to turning on your brain. You can deliberately programme the reticular activating system by choosing the exact messages you send from your conscious mind. For example, you can set goals, or say affirmations, or visualise your goals.

So, imagine that you are now clear on what you truly want, something we help our clients with, then your RAS goes out and finds that information.

Let me give you an example.

Ever gone shopping for a car and then you narrow it down to one or two, and then suddenly you see those cars everywhere?

That is your Reticular Activating System, or RAS, at work.

Now you are clear, watch out as your personal RAS will deliver the information that you want. You might meet someone at a networking event that knows a supplier that you have been looking for for ages.

Or you post an advert for a new consultant, and miraculously the best fit possible arrives.

Or like me, you’re in a garden centre, and you get pulled to a book and open the page and on that page is exactly what you need to answer your question.

Or you might bump into somebody, or you might get a CV of the perfect candidate literally land on your desk 24 hours later from when you’d asked for it.

I know it sounds weird, but this is how our mind works.

Intentions…. Add and Remove Too

Here is something else that amazes me, too. Setting an intention for what you want also starts to remove things too!

I know, strange, isnt it?

One of my first ever mentors explained to me that growth was primarily driven by what we are willing to let go of.

So, what would you like to leave behind so that you can really grow? I suggest all that C$%67.

Maybe frustrations, things not working out  you can let go of all that.

Embrace The Different Ways of Achieving Your Goals

I appreciate I am sharing different things here with you. Embracing new learning and understanding like this, being open to a different view, is one of the secret skills of the high achiever.

Learning is so key as it helps us to move forward out of our comfort zone, which I explain in this blog here and then and produces different results too.
